Have just read Day After Night which a New Zealnd friend sent to me. The book has just arrived here in Israel too and was reviewed in the Jerusalem Post last week.
My partner’s father (and our children’s grandfather) was at that operation and I was wondering so much if he would be mentioned or recognisable.
And there on p.251: “Shayndel nodded and returned to her firends, who were looking up towards the mountains, where a signal fire had been lit”
This fire was lit by Shalom “Sholem” Melamed (z’l – he died 3 years ago) of Kibbutz Kinneret.
